We are thrilled to introduce something truly special: Nordic Knits, a one-shot issue of Laine! As the name suggests, this edition is a celebration of Nordic knitting traditions. Packed with 164 pages, it offers more knitwear patterns than before: 17 in total!

These patterns are crafted by Nordic designers or designers with Nordic roots, and they have also included a few timeless classics from beloved Nordic yarn brands. Every pattern features yarns from Nordic manufacturers, ranging from established brands to small, artisanal hand-dyeing studios.

The knits were created by the following designers and yarn brands: Jenny Ansah, Kristin Drysdale, Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, Ronja Hakalehto, Tiina Huhtaniemi, Caitlin Hunter, Marianne Isager, Åse Lund Jensen, Susanna Kaartinen, Eli Leistad (aka Skeindeer), Lotta H. Löthgren, Tiia Reho, Sandnes Garn and Anna Sjösvärd.

This special issue also includes two super interesting articles. Read how the Danish knitting superstar Mette Wendelboe Okkels turned a career in medicine into one in knitwear design, and how Henna Kvarnström and Tove Ramstedt set up their own artisan spinning mill called Linkulla Spinneri in Inkoo, Finland.

“For Laine’s editorial team, this issue also means, in a way, a return to where it all started: the Nordic aesthetics, landscape and knitting traditions. Laine was founded in Finland in 2016 with the subtitle ‘Nordic Knit Life’, but as the magazine’s readership has expanded, its content has become more and more international (which is, of course, a good thing). With this special issue, however, we want to pay tribute to Laine’s roots, Nordic yarns and the way of life up here in the North.”
