Jamieson & Smith's 2ply Jumper weight yarns are 100% Shetland wool and are traditionally used in the knitting of Fair Isle garments. Available in the full pallette of beautiful shades this yarn is their flagship yarn, and cannot be imitated in terms of depth of colour and spinning quality - although many have tried!
2ply refers to the plys in the yarn, this wool is a 4ply Woollen Spun thickness.
Jamieson & Smith Shetland Wool Brokers Ltd. purchase Shetland wool from over 700 of Shetland's crofters and farmers, and transform it into high-quality Shetland wool.
They have been around since the 1930s, when it was founded by the Smith family of Berry Farm in Scalloway, on the east coast of Shetland. In 2004 the Smith family retired and they joined with Curtis Wool Direct in Yorkshire. Jamieson & Smith continues to be staffed by Shetlanders and they remain a stand alone company, in that the profits received from the sale of Real Shetland Wool and Real Shetland Wool products come back into the Shetland economy and are passed along to the wool producer.
All of the products carry the 3 Sheep Logo, which signals that the product is manufactured from 100% Real Shetland Wool from Sheep that are born and bred on the islands.
Please Note: 2ply Jumper Weight does not have names for shades, the descriptions given here are for reference only to help you. The stickers may also have a name on them, this is from the spinner and again just a reference, only go by the shade number for your reference.
