Lovingly hand-dyed yarn with natural plant materials. These skeins are dyed in the UK. Each creation begins in the hedgerows and fields of Dorset. Katie forages for plants and botanicals to make her natural dyes. The colours and the palettes change with the turning season. Katie hopes her yarn will help build you wild and precious memories.
About: A word from Katie May, mama to Elliott:
“I’ve always created and made things with my hands - from bridal headdresses to ballet costumes. But since becoming a mother, I’ve been called back to a more organic and grounded state of being. With Elliott’s tiny hand in mine, I’m now pursuing a slower, more reflective pace of life.
I started knitting when Elliott was born and I found I couldn’t stop. I knitted everywhere: in the queues to art exhibitions, on the train, during feminist meetings in my friend’s front room.
I ventured into the world of natural dyes, learning all my skills from wise and knowledgeable dyers. There’s something so special about using plants to dye your own fabric. It connects you to the earth as well as making you respectful and curious about the materials and processes used.
In the autumn of 2020, Elliott and May was born. I’m so pleased to share my creations and love of slow-making with a community of like-minded mamas.”
