    DESCRIPTION
The latest addition to the Algorithmic Knitting Design collection is the Bitflower Mobius Cowl. It is a snuggly, deliciously soft mobius cowl that knits up quickly thanks to its bulky weight yarn. It gets its name from its digital yet seemingly floral appearance. These kits will provide you with the right amount of yarn and the pattern to dive into making one yourself!

The cowl is knit in 2-strand fairisle colorwork worked in the round, knit sideways. It begins with a provisional cast on and is connected end to end with kitchener stitch with a half twist for a seamless construction.

Bitflower Mobius Cowl is part of an ongoing series of knitting patterns integrating algorithmic computing and digital aesthetics with knitwear design, under the moniker Algorithmic Knitting Design, by Stephanie Pan. The patterns being developed under this project implement mainly standard, even basic techniques, but challenge the knitter with large, complex and non-repeating patterns.

Algorithmic Knitting Design approaches knitting as a form of applied science and mathematics, and takes advantage of your wonderful skills as a knitter, whether a beginner, intermediate, or master knitter.

    Experience level: intermediate

Techniques used: provisional cast on, 2-strand fairisle colourwork, knitting in the round, kitchener stitch

    Kit will include:

    • 6 balls of Camarose Snefnug: 4 of the main colour (MC) and 2 of the contrast colour (CC)
    • a Ravelry download code for the digital pattern (available in Dutch and English)

Please note that circular and/or darning needles are not included. The pattern calls for 6mm 60cm circular needles or try a size up or down to obtain the right gauge.

Some ‘nerdy’ details about the design:

Cellular automata are dynamic non-linear algorithms which create emergent textures that evolve over space and time. They are used to study complex processes in a variety of fields, including biology, chemistry, sociology, computer science, and more. This cowl takes its colourwork pattern from several of these cellular automata, and was created in collaboration with artist and researcher Stelios Manousakis.

    Please Note:

If you’d like to choose your own colour combination, please leave a comment with your preferred MC and CC when you check out. We might not be able to fulfill the colours of your choice immediately, but we will contact you about your order as soon as possible.
