The Mokosh Fingering base by Nocturne Studios is a super soft 19,5 micron merino yarn with a natural shine. The yarn base is Oeko-Tex 100 Certified yarn. It creates a beautiful fabric and is fantastic for the lovers of a gentle tactile experience without compromising the fibre strength and washability. Mokosh makes cozy, comfortable sweaters, shawls and accessories.

Misha from Nocturne Studios chose the name Mokosh after an ancient Slavic goddess Mokosh, Mokush or Mokosha. The veneration of Mokosha as the protector of sheep and spinning wheels was maintained in northern Russian and Ukrainian folklore until the mid-19th century. She had a large head and long arms, and would go around cottages and spinning wheels at night if the tow was left freely accessible. Although traces of her cult were recorded in the middle of the 19th century in northern Russia, the figure and position of this goddess in the Slavic pantheon have not been satisfactorily explained to this day. She however appears prominently as the protector of women's work, especially spinning and sheep shearing.

    About Nocturne Studios

Nocturne is an independent art studio, primarily focused on hand-dyed yarn and merchandise inspired by folklore, myths, and has a dark cottage-core aesthetic.

While Nocturne Studio is often referred to as “we”, behind the scenes, there is actually just one person and creator: Misha (they/them). Misha is the dyer (& artist, administrator, social media marketer, mailman, customer service representative, and cat parent) responsible for the conception of Nocturne. They are based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where they live with their partner and their three cats.

Misha: “ I’m neurodivergent (AuDHD) and identify as queer and non-binary. Nocturne is and always will be a safe, supportive space for everyone, regardless of who they identify as, who they love, how they look, their heritage, their circumstances, or how much money they make. Standing up for equity, dignity, kindness, and freedom to live an authentic life is at the core of my principles and I strive to live up to them and to keep learning and getting better. “
